Staying at home helps prevent the spread of the coronavirus. But sometimes, this facilitates families to deviate from their normal routines. Relaxed schedules, more time watching TV, changes in the quality and quantity of food, minimal exercise, etc.
What can you do to help your family stay healthy?
Establish regular meal and snack times to avoid “grazing” all day long. Serve 3 meals and 2 scheduled snacks every day. When it’s time to eat, ask the children to sit at the table with you and not in front of a screen.
What should you serve?
Make your home a healthy eating zone. Emphasize:
✓ Fruits and vegetables.
✓ Whole foods such as whole grain bread, brown rice, quinoa, and pasta.
✓ Foods high in protein, such as lean meat, legumes, eggs, and peanut butter.
What types of foods should you avoid?
Cookies and ice cream are okay occasionally, but not every day. Keep convenient foods and treats out of the house so your children are not tempted.
Packaged foods and ready-made meals are convenient, but they are high in fat, sugar, and calories.
Be a good role model for your children by enjoying healthy foods and avoiding excessive consumption.
